Furniture Refinishing – How to Paint A Wood Furniture



Furniture plays an important role in defining the ambience of a place, be it the home or office. Wooden furniture is elegant and never goes out of fashion. However dust and some other factors make it look old. All wood furniture needs furniture refinishing over a certain period of time. Preparing Surface for Painting

Repairing – make sure the furniture have not any damage before painting. In case if there is any damages or small cracks, joints and screws in the furniture, repair it immediately.     

Sanding - If you are planning to paint your wooden furniture, then first thing you should do sanding. Don’t be avoiding to sanding your furniture. Proper sanding will ensure an even surface, smooth finish that is not flat to chipping. Use medium size grit sandpaper to remove trace of dirt in the furniture and removing the waxing components completely. Once you completed the sanding, it’s important to remove all dust will not only mess up the new finish, but also keep the paint and primer to sticking.

Priming – once your furniture is sanded, you need to prime it fully by using spray or brush. Use spray primer that give neater, thinner coat than a brush. When you prime, you want to do several very thin coats based on the wood quality.

Choosing Right Color

The color of the pain should matched your wood color or choose the brighter colors. Buy high quality latex paints which are easy to apply, easy to clean up after and create a smooth finish. Mix the pain well and using a clean paint brush, apply it on the furniture fully. First paint larger and flat surfaces; be sure to not overload your brush with paint. If there is too much of paint on the brush           when brush up over on the edge, sometimes the paint may run over the furniture. The paints dries very quickly, so be careful on paint your furniture and wipe any drips or overflow immediately with a clean soft cloth. 

Once the paint is dry, apply a lacquer or sealant to protect the paint from nicks and scratches. Many furniture refinishing companies provide this service at affordable cost.
